Water & Wastewater Pumps: India Market Scenario, Trends, Opportunity, Growth and Forecast, 2020-2030

Market Definition

Water pump is a hydraulic machine used to raise, compress or transfer fluids. It is a mechanical device which imparts energy to a fluid and is primarily used for transportation of fluids. In industrial and municipal sector, wastewater pumps are used to collect sewage, effluent, drainage, and seepage water. Positive displacement or centrifugal force are frequently used in wastewater pumps to transport fluids.

Market Insights

As per the report published by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in March 2021, sewage generation from urban areas in the country is estimated at 72,368 million litres per day (MLD), against which sewage treatment capacity of 31,841 MLD was available. The gap between wastewater generation and treatment in India is significant. In order to bridge the gap, the Government of India is planning to set up new wastewater treatment plants, consequently engineering excellent growth opportunities for the water pump manufacturers. Rapid urbanization, increasing gap between demand & supply, health awareness, declining levels of ground water, are reasons for increasing importance of water & wastewater treatment business in India and the government is focusing on water reuse projects in order to minimize water scarcity.

A promising area of environmental technology in India is water and wastewater management.  By 2030, it is anticipated that India’s water consumption would be twice as high as its availability.  Public and corporate institutions have ambitious plans to create extensive water and wastewater treatment and distribution infrastructure in order to meet these issues.

The Indian water and wastewater treatment industry is expanding as a result of numerous governmental efforts, including the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, National Mission for Clean Ganga, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Community Drinking Water Schemes. The Jal Shakti Ministry was established by the Indian government in May 2019 with the goal of providing the country’s citizens with safe drinking water.  The Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to bring piped drinking water to 146 million homes in 700,000 villages by 2024, was started by the Jal Shakti Ministry not long after it was established.  In order to improve the coverage of household water connections from 18.33 percent in 2019 to 100 percent in 2024, the mission allocated $51 billion to the states. This project creating opportunities for water transportation and hence generating demand for water pumps.

Market Dynamics: Drivers

Pumps and Pump Equipment will Grow in the Water & Wastewater Sector Due to Rapid Urbanization and Industrialization

As the need for efficient strategies to combat water scarcity grows, investments in desalination facilities and wastewater treatment for maintaining water tables will multiply. In the WWW sector, businesses emphasize sustainability and net-zero holding. Initiatives therefore concentrate on figuring out effective ways to use water. Companies will utilize cutting-edge procedures, control treatment technologies, smart pumps, and smart metres to reduce waste and reuse trash from these treatment processes (such as sludge from treatment facilities). They’ll keep putting AI-based platforms into practise.

Increased Investments in the Water & Wastewater Industry

High water demand and depleting water supplies have increased investments and prompted enterprises to switch to smart water management systems. To track water usage and boost plant performance, businesses are integrating IIoT-based technologies into their current water management systems. Due to increased industrialization in the region’s emerging markets for chemicals, plastics, and medicines, India has one of the fastest growing pump markets in the world. Because more small and medium-sized businesses are using smart technology and monitoring systems, and because the government is supporting innovative technology more and more, India’s marketplaces will experience a robust market boom.
